Description
A striking vintage silver medal; featuring a classical champions head in relief with laurel wreath and ‘ACHIEVEMENT’ to the front. The reverse is engraved ‘1937 A.P.C.M.Ltd & B.P.C.M Ltd’ and ‘Ten Event Competition Winners’. There’s a small space to engrave a name or initials if you wanted to.
The APCM and BPCM stands for ‘Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers and British Portland Cement Manufacturers which in around 1911 produced about 80% of the UK’s cement manufacturing! This would likely have been a competition medal for a staff sports day in 1937 – a quirky but charming piece of industrial history.
It’s a beautifully modelled piece and would be great gift as a talisman for anyone that’s reached a major milestone recently. It has a good weight to it and it would look great on a watch chain or necklace!
