A knockout Art Deco era faience scarab pendant; the beautifully modelled scarab is likely an earlier antique bead which has then be re-set in the 1920-30s in this striking silver mount.

The scarab itself is a gorgeous mottled green and turquoise colour with beautiful markings. The silver mount has a great geometric edging but the back is even better, featuring an array of charming hieroglyphs embossed into the metal.

Perennial fascination with all things Ancient Egyptian mean that scarabs (a symbol of renewal and rebirth) have been popular in jewellery since the Victorian era. But this interest exploded with the discovery of treasures in Tutankhamun’s tomb in November 1922 at the Valley of the Kings, Egypt.

This piece is a wonderful size and as such makes a great statement piece on it’s own or layered with other pieces. Snap him up soon before the re-explosion of interest for the 2022 centenary!

MATERIAL: Faience (glazed pottery) scarab and silver mount (unmarked but tested)

CONDITION: Great vintage condition; scarab is overall very good with no notable chips or cracks; some mottling of colour to the glaze with age. Silver mount is in good condition; zigzag geometric edging is a little uneven at the ‘2o’clock’ point but this looks to be original; not a loss of metal, just they’ve stretched out the design to make the two ends meet! Jump ring is secure with a nice large bale.
