A rare and unusual early American Arts & Crafts silver ring; beautifully modelled as a dome of captivating rock crystal giving a pool-of-light look, all set within a rustic hand-carved silver mount of lily leaf design. this beautifully imagined piece looks like a giant water droplet captured by the lily leaves; a most charming effect! Unfortunately I’ve not been able to assign a maker to this piece but it’s a striking period piece and makes a great statement ring for cocktail parties!

ORIGIN: American

SIZE: An impressive piece – the dome measures 3cm diameter and 1.5cm high. Ring size is hard to gauge exactly due to size of setting but approx U.S. size 5.25 / UK size K. Weighs 22.8grams.

MATERIAL: Rock crystal dome with sterling silver handmade mount (unhallmarked but tested).

CONDITION: This stunner is in great condition for its age; the rock crystal has no visible chips or cracks and only very minute surface wear commensurate with age. The stone does turn very slightly in its setting and, when twisted and looking very closely you can see evidence of an uneven fractured edge under one lily pad leaf but I believe this is original to the piece; likely when it was set. It certainly doesn’t affect the central look of the ring or security of the stone. It is only visible on close inspection when the stone is turned and so only mentioned for utmost accuracy (last photo).

The silver mount is rustically made; but that was a feature of the arts and crafts period. The shank has scrolling applied wirework and curving lily pad leaves hold the dome of rock crystal. Some signs of wear to the shank but it is robust and has a nice thickness to it. Very comfortable and easy to wear piece despite its size!

CARE GUIDANCE: Although a substantial statement piece, it is recommended this be worn as a cocktail ring rather than everyday due to the rock crystal dome.
