A stunning and rare original Arts & Crafts necklace; beautifully modelled in buttery 15ct gold as an openwork heart with asymmetric drops, all accented with creamy pearls. This is an extremely unusual design, and such lovely quality; and as such it is attributed to the iconic Arts & Crafts designer, Archibald Knox for Liberty & Co. 

To any collector of Arts & Crafts jewellery, Archibald Knox and Liberty & Co need no introduction. Knox was at the cutting edge of the most elegant Arts & Crafts design, perfectly bringing together beautiful form while showing off the craftsmanship of construction. Liberty & Co is the iconic London department store that specialised in bring high quality crafts made pieces to the aristocracy and industrial elite of the Victorian era into the early 20th Century.

This stunning piece, perfectly encapsulates both design and craftsmanship; with the asymmetric heart sweeping from an almost leaf-like naturalistic curve; accented with creamy graduated pearls. As to construction, this is a beautifully hand made, showing a range of the jewellers techniques; and the reverse even retains evidence of the ‘punchmarks’ used to help the setting of pearls; a known feature of some of Knox’s other work.

Altogether a supremely elegant and wearable piece today, and a great addition to any Arts & Crafts jewellery collection.

MAKER: Please noted that this piece is unmarked (aside from the 15ct gold stamp to the clasp) and so it is attributed to Archibald Knox for Liberty & Co, based on the the quality of design and construction.

MATERIAL: 15ct yellow gold and pearl

SIZE: 16″ long – an extender section could easily be added to the clasp if desired. The heart measures 1.5cm from top to bottom. The drop as a whole, from top of heart, to bottom pearl, measures 3cm.

WEIGHT: 4.1 grams

CONDITION: Beautiful condition – gold is a gorgeous buttery colour, no dents or splits. Pearls are well matched and all appear to be original. Clasp is secure. Box is for display only – but this piece will come beautifully gift wrapped.
