Description

An extremely rare and unusual antique Victorian ring; modelled with a finely carved moonstone depicting a cherubic baby face, set in warm 9ct yellow gold.

The Victorians loved quirky and unusual pieces, and there was a trend for carved moonstone faces; either the man in the moon or, like this one cherubic baby faces. However, they’re extremely hard to find, especially with such finely carved details as this adorable beauty.

Judging by the style of the setting, which is late Victorian, early Arts & Crafts I’d put this ring around c.1890-1900. It certainly makes a conversation piece and is a wonderful addition to any antique jewellery collection.

ERA: Victorian c.1900

The carving overall is exquisite with beautifully plump lips and cheeks and delicate whisps of hair. No cracks to the stone. The warm gold setting is handmade and still has a lovely thickness.
