Victorian 9ct Yellow Rose Gold Owl Ring c.1890s

Description

An absolutely adorable and highly sought after owl ring; the head finely modelled with such expressive features, heavy eyebrows, fluffy feathers, and a neat little beak. The owl face is a buttery yellow gold, beautifully accented with facetted pink garnet eyes, and set to a bifurcated band in a lovely blush rose gold.

Owls have been a popular motif in jewellery since ancient times; representing femininity and wisdom, these nocturnal beauties are linked to the Greek goddess Athena and her knowledge, culture, and good judgement.

This looks like it may have originally been a stick pin made c.1890s, then converted shortly thereafter (around 1900s) into a ring. This judgement is based on the heavy quality and style of the bifurcated rose gold shank, and the beautiful crisp 9CT gold stamp.
