An absolutely stunning and extremely rare antique French Empire II ring; finely modelled as the Cross of Lorraine set with twinkling rose cut diamonds, to a classical laurel wreath surround.

The Cross of Lorraine (Croix de Lorraine) has its origins in 12th Century Hungary, before being adopted in the 15th century by the Lorraine region of France. The iconic double barred cross was used by the Free French resistance during World War II in the efforts to to push back against fascism.

This exquisite example likely dates to around the 1870s; the later Second Empire of France. The condition is stunning and its extremely well made despite its tiny size – the perfect pinky ring!

The value of this piece is not in its gold or diamond content, but in its incredible rarity, exquisite craftsmanship, and strong message. A stunning addition to any antique jewellery collection; especially if you want to stylishly demonstrate your resistance to fascism in the modern era!

ERA: c.1870s – late second French Empire

MATERIAL: 18ct yellow gold (French eagle head assay mark to outside of shank) and rose cut diamonds

SIZE: UK size ‘I’ / US size 4 – Head of the ring measures 13 x 11 mm. Although this is a small size it could likely be resized a little by a jeweller used to working with antique pieces.

WEIGHT: 2.2 grams

CONDITION: Gorgeous condition for its age. Shank has a nice thickness with minimal wear. Rose cut diamonds are well matched and twinkly. Crisp modelling of the laurel wreath surmount to an elegant classical shoulder. Box is for illustration only but this piece will come beautifully gift wrapped.

CARE GUIDANCE: Although this ring is in great condition she its still an antique so should be worn with care – no immersion in liquids or wearing during sports etc.
