Description

An unusual antique Spanish silver name ring; in a wide cigar band style with ‘Carmen’ picket out in relief against a backdrop of beautifully hand engraved details.

Carmen has been a popular name in Spain for centuries; a gender-neutral name it originates from the Latin word ‘carmel’ meaning garden or orchard.

A rare and lovely addition to any antique jewellery collection this piece looks great on its own or stacked with other pieces.

ERA: Antique 19th Century – c.1890s

ORIGIN: Unhallmarked but this piece was sourced in Spain. hence attribution to Spanish origin.

SIZE: Ring is 13mm wide so this precludes entirely accurate sizing – but estimated to be U.S. size ‘6.5’ / UK size ‘N’. See photo of this piece on a ring stick to help make your own determination re sizing. It could be sized up a little by a jeweller experienced in working with antique pieces. I would not recommend sizing down as you might risk losing some of the design.

WEIGHT: 6.2 grams

MATERIAL: Silver – unhallmarked but tests as silver

CONDITION: Lovely antique condition – some small signs of wear to the back of the band but these are minimal and commensurate with age, mentioned only for utmost accuracy. The interior of the band at the back shows the original join or a sizing mark. The lettering is crisp and hand engraved details are still bright. Please note that I have not over polished this piece as I prefer the antique patina, but it could be brought to a higher shine by a professional jeweller if desired.

SHIPPING: Free inside the UK or to the U.S. – please note U.S. buyers are responsible for any customs / import duties.
