Georgian Facetted Coral Gold Mourning Charm Pendant c.1800s

Description

This was originally a striking Georgian mourning brooch, but as the pin had been damaged I had my jeweller rescue it with a sympathetic conversion into this charming pendant.

It features a wonderful oblong of coral in rich orange tone, finely carved with a geometric pattern, set in a hobnail gold mount, and a small hair under glass compartment to the reverse. The addition of a simple loop makes this an eminently wearable addition to your antique jewellery collection; perfect on its own or layering with other charms.

Coral has been popular in jewellery since ancient times but became particularly popular in the Georgian era as a fashionable souvenir from the Grand Tours around Italy. This lovely piece dates to around 1800-1820 and absolutely capture the elegance of the era. A great addition to any antique jewellery collection; perfect for summer and fall!

MATERIAL: Natural coral, silver gilt, gold, glass, woven hair.

SIZE: Pendant measures 2.2cm long not including fixed loop.

CONDITION: Fair antique condition; the reverse does show traces of the original brooch fitting. Some slight damage commensurate with age, including a small section at the top where the glass doesn’t quite meet the metal and the glass does bear a crack across the middle but it is secure – this condition is already reflected in the pricing as perfect it would be c£395. C0nversion has been sympathetically done. Chain and box are for illustration only but this piece will come beautifully gift wrapped. More photos and video available on request.
