Georgian Rose Gold Garnet Sepia Halo Ring c.1800

A stunning and rare Georgian ring; featuring a central sepia panel set under glass or crystal to a halo of purplish square cut garnets. The whole is set in a lovely warm rose gold mount, with a lovely thickness to the shank.

The central panel is beautiful quality and depicts a village scene with garden, an archway, trees, buildings, and a church in the distance. It is extremely finely done and even under magnification I am struggling to tell well this is very fine hair work or a miniaturist style sepia painting. The garnets are a gorgeous quirky square cut; each one hand cut shape and in range of purplish tones. They add a lovely accent to the whole scene; like a whole little lost world captured in miniature!

Parting with this from my personal collection as I’ve decided I really can’t hoard all the best pieces! A fabulous addition to any antique jewellery collection; this wonderful piece is of museum quality but still very wearable.

ERA: Georgian c1800-1820

SIZE: Currently a US size 4.5 but it could be sized by a professional jeweller used to dealing with anu

MATERIAL: Sepia (painting or fine hairwork) under crystal glass, Garnet, and rose gold. Shank is stamped 9ct but I believe the mount may be a slightly higher carat (untested).

CONDITION: Fabulous antique condition; the painting/hairwork is exceptionally fine and in extremely good. Crystal glass is fabulous; minimal wear and no chips or cracks. The garnets are all secure; one is a replacement done at my expense by a professional jeweller who specialises in museum quality repairs; he had the garnet hand cut to match the square cut of the other stones. It is difficult to point out the replacement as the halo of garnets does have some natural variation in the shades anyway. Mentioning only for utmost accuracy and transparency. The shank is wonderful condition; with a nice solid weight to it meaning it would give many years of wear to come.

CARE GUIDANCE: As this is an antique piece, of museum quality it should be worn with care. It’s robust enough to wear our on special occasions but should not be put anywhere near water, perfumes, or aerosols.
