GUILD OF HANDICRAFTS Silver Crackle Glass Enamel Brooch c.1920s

Description

A stunning Arts and Crafts bar brooch; beautifully modelled in hand formed silver, with foil crackle glass enamel panels, to a delicate rope twist border. It’s a striking piece; the long design making it perfect for a lapel, coat or even on a waistband.

The Guild of Handicrafts was a collective of artists and designers aligned to the Arts and Crafts movement in the UK. They started in London in 1888, later moving to Chipping Camden, but also with branches in the Midlands and Scotland. The collective had numerous members and alas without a makers mark I can’t assign it to a particular artist but it’s very much in the style and contemporaneous with the likes of Charles Robert Ashbee (the founder) as well as other high profile members.

A beautiful statement piece this would make a great addition to any Arts and Crafts jewellery collection.

MATERIAL: Silver and crackle glass enamel panels

SIZE: 10cm long

CONDITION: Beautiful antique condition – the silver work has a lovely patina as I have not overcleaned it. Clasp is secure. Crackle glass enamel discs are in good condition – the central one has surface reaching crackles and under magnification a small sliver appears to be missing but I believe this to be original to the manufacturing. It is only visible under magnification and does not affect the beauty or wearability – mentioning only for utmost accuracy. See photos – video available on request.
