A stunning original Victorian mourning ring; beautifully made in buttery 18ct gold with a heavy floral chased border to the black enamel band which reads ‘In Memory Of’ in fabulous gothic lettering. The inside bears a beautifully hand engraved inscription showing this ring was made to commemorate the life of ‘Philip Phelps, obt (died) 13 Feb 1889 Age 82 Yrs’. Alas I can’t find much about his life but I believe he could have lived in Wiltshire, England. He must have been a gentleman of some considerable assets to have lived to the grand old age of 82 and been commemorated in such a way.
A gorgeous example in a very nice width, weight, and size. This looks great on its own or stacked with other pieces.

MATERIAL: 18ct yellow gold and enamel
SIZE: US Size 7.25 / UK Size O. Band is 6mm wide. Not sizable.
CONDITION: In excellent antique condition; the crisp engraving, hallmark, and floral border shows that this piece has had minimal wear. The enamel is all original and in lovely condition; under very close inspection one can see there’s a very tiny loss of enamel by the ‘Y’, and under magnification a little surface abrasion (but no loss of colour) in between the ‘of’.
