An absolutely charming and beautifully made Victorian crescent ring; finely modelled in buttery 18ct yellow gold, set with turquoise and pearls, accented with a flared shoulder to a reeded shank.
The Victorians were huge fans of symbols in jewellery, and the crescent moon is an ancient symbol of virgin Diana and moon goddess Luna who were worshipped as one and the same in the Roman era. As such the Victorians used it to represent femininity and changing seasons in life and this beautiful piece would most likely have been a coming of age gift, or token of love to a betrothed sweetheart.
A beautiful example and great addition to any antique jewellery collection.

CONDITION: Beautiful antique condition – minimal signs of wear commensurate with age. Shank has a nice thickness to it and judging by the crispness of the reeded shank, this piece has not been worn extensively. Stones are securely set and evenly matched with good colour and lustre.
