A really stunning mid-century miniature butterfly brooch by the collectible Danish jeweller Volmer Bahner. This piece is unusual in that it has a rare ‘polkadot’ design of white spots against a backdrop of bright red guilloche enamel. The whole has been finished with a light gold vermeil wash. I have never seen another polkadot butterfly by this maker before.
The company was registered between 1934 to 1988 and so this is one of the earlier pieces from this maker. Bahner is recognised as one of the lead enamellists of his day, with his early work particularly featuring hearts or butterflies.
It’s a supremely versatile little pin; very easy to dress up or down. The perfect addition to any vintage jewellery collection.
