A stunning artist jewel made by the iconic Finnish designer Bjorn Weckstrom who founded Lapponia, the collectible high end jewellery company that specialised in cutting edge designs. The 1960s and 1970’s was an exciting era for jewellers as they took inspiration from cutting edge futurism, space, and technology; Bjorn Weckstrom embodied this movement at its finest.
This supremely elegant pieces features two creamy white pearls of different sizes, illusion set as though nestling in a rugged nugget of natural gold; all hanging from a beautiful handmade long link chain. A beautifully balanced piece made with exquisite craftsmanship.
Bjorn Weckstrom shot to fame for being the designer of Princess Leia’s famous ‘Planetoid Valley’s’ silver collar necklace worn in the last scene of the original Star Wars in 1977. He was known for embracing naturalistic rugged handling of gold and silver, accented with pearls and gemstones. As this necklace dates to 1971, it is a rare early design for him and as such a very collectible investment piece.

ERA: 1971 – Finnish date mark ‘S7’
MAKER: Bjorn Weckstrom – as this is an early piece, dating around to the time Lapponia was just being established this piece doesn’t have the Lapponia mark but is stamped ‘BW’ for this iconic designer.
MATERIAL: 14ct yellow gold (hallmarked) set with pearls
SIZE: The gold panel part of the necklace measures 27mm x 14mm. The necklace length is 18″ but could be extended or shortened by a professional jeweller if needed.
WEIGHT: 10 grams
CONDITION: Gorgeous vintage condition – the finish to the gold is stunning and pearls have a creamy white lustre with no signs of wear. Chain and clasp are secure and beautifully made.
CARE ADVICE: This is definitely a ‘dress’ piece – it is not a ‘daily wear’ piece! So enjoy whilst elegantly sipping cocktails in a 1970s style dress, don’t wear it doing housework or down the gym! To protect the pearls do not spray with perfumes / aerosols / immerse in liquids.
